Getting Started
Central Contractor Registration
The first thing to do is register with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) system. CCR is the primary database for information about trading partners who would like to do business with the Department of Defense (DoD). The database contains trading partner information relevant to procurement and financial business transactions. Contractors are only required to register in the database one time, with subsequent annual updates and renewals.

The benefits of registering with CCR are many.

• Provides worldwide visibility of sources to government buyers and finance officers for the purpose of streamlining contract awards and payments

• Helps to increase efficiency and lower costs by simplifying and streamlining the procurement process. It also allows trading partners to avoid registering with multiple procurement offices

• Saves time and reduces errors by creating an accurate record of data or Trading Partner Profile (TPP) for each business

• Provides banking information to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), enabling trading partners to be paid via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

• Complies with the Debt Collection and Improvement Act of 1996 (Section 31001 of Public Law 104-134)

There are two ways to register. You can register online at <www.ccr2000.com> or call the DoD EC/EDI office at 800-EDI-3414.

The www.ccr2000.com website provides a lot of information to help you.

Finding Contracts
Next, you'll want to look for contracts that your business can fulfill. You can find them on these sites:

III Corps Contracting Command
<http://ccmd.hood.army.mil>

This website provides contractors direct on-line access to III Corps, Fort Hood, Fort Carson and Fort Riley procurement requirements; publishes current procurement summary information; provides vendors an electronic means of submitting bids, quotes and offers; provides general information on Electronic Commerce (EC) initiatives; and provides reference materials for III Corps activities.

Procurement Organizations
<http://www.acq.osd.mil>

This site will help you located individuals in various procurement organizations, including those in Army contracting organizations, Army Program Executive Officers and Program/Project Managers (PEOs/PMs), the Defense Logistics Agency, the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Navy.

Both of these websites have links to other contracting and procurement websites. They're great places to start looking for contracts for your business.

Department of Defense Programs for Small and Disadvantaged Businesses
The Department of Defense has several programs for small and disadvantaged businesses. The Fast Track Program and Small Business Innovation Research each fund $500 million each year in early-stage research, small technology and development companies. There's a Mentor-Protégé Program and a program for Women-Owned Small Businesses.
