Connected to
the Future
(updated 2/2005)
Electricity
n 1999, the Texas
Legislature passed Senate Bill 7 and electric utilities in Texas began the
transition from decades of operating as regulated, fully integrated electric
utilities to a new environment where the price for electricity is largely
determined by free market principles. Full competition began January 1,
2002. Now you can choose the electric provider that is best for you. For a
competitive retailer listing, visit <www.powertochoose.org>.
TXU Electric Delivery is the
largest electric utility in Texas and delivers electricity to 2.7
million customers of Retail Electric Providers (REP). Subject to
governmental regulation, TXU Electric Delivery offers access to one of the largest energy
infrastructures in the world — over 13,000 miles of electrical transmission
lines and some 91,000 miles of distribution lines.
TXU Electric Delivery has a service territory that stretches some 600 miles from far West
Texas to near Louisiana, and extends from the Oklahoma border about 250
miles south into Central Texas. TXU Electric Delivery delivers energy in 645 cities
stretched across 130 counties.
