EDC releases 2010 Annual Report

Dan YanceyThis past August the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation reached a milestone of twenty years of serving the citizens and businesses of Copperas Cove. Although the celebration was short and we have spent little time reflecting on our past, we have taken note of how far the CCEDC and the community has come in twenty years.

As this year’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, I take great pride in joining the many past CCEDC Board members that cumulatively volunteered hundreds of hours and dedicated themselves to the betterment of Copperas Cove. Their service to the community should never go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Regarding the CCEDC’s activities this past year, despite an economy that continues to challenge entrepreneurs, private investors and business leaders alike, we remained focused on our Master Plan. And that focus has reaped large rewards.

First and foremost, after more than five years of work, the most recent land exchange with Fort Hood was successfully completed. This land exchange opened almost 130 acres of additional land for commercial and industrial development. As you browse through this annual report you will read of the many accomplishments that can be credited to this Board of Directors. As a group, we are very proud of the progress we have made and as Chairman I am proud to be associated with these dedicated individuals. I believe the work we have done will launch this community into a new era of economic prosperity and well-being.

So as we start the CCEDC’s 21st year of service we renew our pledge to continue to deliver high-impact programs and services to our business community, work to attract new businesses and industry to Copperas Cove and create an environment that will welcome entrepreneurs.

Thank you for your support.

Dan Yancey
2010 EDC Chairman of the Board of Directors

From the EDC Directors Desk on the 2010 Annual Report

2010 - A Year of AccomplishmentsAs the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation fiscal year drew to a close at the end of September, I chose to sit back and reflect on the accomplishments of the organization. My conclusion: There is much to be proud of.

The Annual Report we have produced and will make public provides an outstanding review of the progress we have made. This organization, with the help of the City of Copperas Cove and its other partners, has positioned this community as an economic development leader in Central Texas and beyond.

The Annual Report reflects the work of the Board and the staff. Cinergy Cinemas, the culmination of the latest Land Exchange Agreement with Fort Hood, assisting the Stoney Brook Assisted Living Center with its construction plans, annexing and zoning land as negotiations for the development of a shopping center go forth, installation of a state-of-the-art digital sign, the extension of Constitution Drive and working with the principals of Constitution Court apartment complex are all projects that will enhance the economic vitality and quality of life in Copperas Cove.

Yet much remains to be done. Special efforts need to be made to assure that the companies born here remain in the area once they have matured. We need to identify and attract compatible businesses to our city. We also need to let the world know what a great community this is. We must continue to demonstrate our commitment to our Fort Hood friends and neighbors for they contribute so much to our way of life.

As the City’s economic development entity, one of our most important tasks is to identify young people willing to step into leadership roles within the business and public service community and help lead the effort to improve our economy. Our community must grow or it will wither. Success is not measured by maintaining the status quo.

It is my privilege to serve as Executive Director of the CCEDC and I am looking forward to the great things this next year has in store for us. I have no doubt that the Board of Directors and staff will take advantage of each and every opportunity that comes our way. I am equally certain that we will meet each challenge with the professionalism and integrity that has become the hallmark of the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation.
